Miller invited to appear on talk show
Dale Miller has been invited to appear on The Sally Jesse Raphael Show. Miller, the UALR computing services staffer who made headlines during the fall semester for wearing women’s clothes to work, has been contacted by the show about an appearance. He originally planned to leave Wednesday for New York to tape the episode, but he said the show notified him it would have to reschedule due to the recent East Coast blizzard.
Miller said he doesn’t know when the rescheduled taping will take place.
“They called me up, asked me if I wanted to be on (the show) and scheduled the taping date. They’ve rescheduled the taping date. They’ve canceled that one, and now they’re saying it’s going to be sometime this month,” Miller said.
Miller, who has since stopped wearing skirts and high-heeled shoes to work, first made news when the Forum reported his story in the Oct. 9 issue. The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette then ran a story on him, followed by a feature in the National Enquirer.
This will be his first television appearance.
Miller said the article in the Enquirer led the show to him, but he is not sure what the exact topic of the episode will be.
“I really don’t know [what it's going to be about],” he said. “They haven’t talked to me in any detail about it yet.”
Miller did not say why he agreed to be on the show, but he did mention he doesn’t want to embarrass UALR on national television.
“I hope it won’t have any negative impact on the university. I don’t want it to. There are those people who … don’t have anything better to do than worry about something. I figure anybody that cares already knows at this point.”
Does Miller want all the publicity he’s getting?
“Sure, why not,” he said.
Miller said the Sally episodes are usually aired about a week or two after they are taped.
Note: The appearance didn’t take place as planned. The week it was scheduled, New York City was snowed in. I did finally make it on the show, though, the following year. - Dale
